Duane Truex is interested in the social impacts of ISD especially the impact on workers and how emergent properties of organizations may be reflected in emergent ISD. Truex is active in the IFIP 8.2 community. He has studied enterprise information systems implementation and architectures in the US, Canada and Europe and is currently examining the way non IS managers may better participate in modeling their own work systems to inform the development of organizational IS. Recent publications explore the nature of scholarly influence, as both ideational and social constructs, in academic communities.

He has been active in the International Federation of Information Processing (IFIP) working groups 8.2 and 8.6 research communities and has been a program chair, track chair or doctoral consortia co-chair of several major international conferences including the (ICIS) 2008-Paris. He serves as an Associate Editor for the Information Systems Journal,  has co-edited two special issues of The Database for Advances in Information Systems and is on the editorial board of the Scandinavian Journal of Information Systems, the Journal of Communication, Information Technology & Work and is a co-editor of the International Journal of Public Information Sytems. Truex is the Program Director for the GSU-Robinson College University of Nantes Academic Exchange program and holds a joint appointment in the Robinson College in the Computer Information Systems Department and the Institute of International Business. He has been a Leverhulme Fellow at the University of Salford (England) and a visiting professor in Aalborg (Denmark) and at Cornell University and Florida International University in the US. He currently holds academic affiliations with the Mid Sweden University (Sundsvall Sweden) and the University of Nantes (France).

His work has been published in the Communications of the ACM, Communications of the ACM, Accounting Management and Information Technologies, The Database for Advances in Information Systems, the European Journal of Information Systems (EJIS), le journal de la Society  d'Information et Management (SIM),  the Information Systems Journal (ISJ), The Jouranal of the AIS, the Journal of Arts Management and Law, IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management, and 70 assorted IFIP transactions and edited books and conference proceedings.   In July 2004 he published an edited book entitled "Information Systems Research: Relevant Theory and Informed Practice" published by Kluwer Academic Press.

Prior to his career in academe Truex had a fifteen-year career in the management of nonprofit organizations. Truex managed four nonprofit organizations, two symphony orchestras (Baton Rouge, LA and Kansas City, MO) and two museums (Baton Rouge and Binghamton, NY) His first academic posting was as the Program Director of the MBA/Arts Administration graduate program at SUNY Binghamton. He has served on the boards of numerous civic associations and nonprofit arts organizations. He as Vice-President of the Board of Directors of the GSU Federal Credit Union until its merger with Georgia's Own Credit Union in late 2011.

Truex is a Celtic musician, his group TrueRose has recorded and has been active in performances in the Atlanta area. He is also an avid sailor and is an American Sailing Association certified sailing instructor.
