Project #2

+ TOPIC ANALYSIS

This is an individual project.

It has a written and an oral component.  First, you will write a paper that articulates an important area of IS research.  It can be a traditional area, like IS personnel research, or a new area, like e-Commerce.  As with topic analyses (see Gordon Davis’ book, assigned for this course, as to how to write a topic analysis), this paper will begin by addressing specific research issues (questions) you are proposing within the general area.  It should also argue for their importance (i.e., contribution).  A short review of the relevant literature will be in order.  Every paper should propose a set of research questions, and where appropriate, a set of propositions, and/or hypotheses for empirical testing.  Like the topic analysis, the paper will put forward a short research design and methodology.  A "potential outcomes" sections also needs to be written.  Presumably there will be theoretical as well as pragmatic reasons for the importance of the research.

The oral presentation of the course project is scheduled for the last session of the course.  In these presentations, you will want to present your best arguments for the importance of the study and try to persuade the class that this research is critically important.  Graphical aids will be most welcome.  You will want to present to the class your set of research questions and propositions, and/or hypotheses that call for empirical testing.  Take 20 minutes maximum, each, for the oral presentation.
